With A strong bulldog defense behind him, senior Avery Smith didn't allow a single run against Georgetown, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Harrisonburg Bulldogs to a 8-0 victory on Tuesday, April 30. The Bulldogs got things started in the first inning. Junior Dylan Alexander tripled an a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Bulldogs secured the victory thanks to five runs in the third inning thanks to big bats by seniors Devin McGraw and Braxton Tiffee and an error on a ball put in play by 8th grader Jacob Bradford. Harrisonburg Bulldogs varsity put up five runs in the third inning. Seniors McGraw and Tiffee, and junior Alexander each had 2 RBIs with 8th grader Bradford with 1 RBI in the game. Smith was credited with the victory for Harrisonburg. He went seven innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out six. Smith also led the Bulldogs with three stolen bases, as the rest of the Bulldogs ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases (Dylan Alexander, Chad McCarthy, Devin McGraw 2, Braxton Tiffee ). McGraw also led Harrisonburg with two hits in three at bats. Junior shortstop Chad McCarthy and Senior Braxton Tiffee teamed up with two timely double plays. The Bulldogs will start their title defense on Field 37 at 1:00 at McMurry Park in Sulphur in the Semi-Finals. The game will be aired by Sandlot Sports sponsored heavily by community and business members.
