The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Tigers last Tuesday night 46-34.
This game got off to a very slow start. The two teams played relaxed in the first quarter but couldn’t get shots in the basket.
The offense got going a little more in the second quarter as the Bears put 17 points up while LaSalle put only 7 on the board.
So, the Lady Bears had a comfortable 20-10 lead going at halftime.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bears in the third quarter and was making it a closer game, until Block started pressing the Lady Tigers that is. Block’s lead shrunk to 6 points but then the press forced turnovers and easy shots for the Lady Bears.
The Lady Bears milked the clock all the way to the win.
The Lady Bears then traveled to Montgomerey this past Friday night where they defeated the Lady Tigers 37-34.
The Bears defeated the Tigers in a 34-29 low scoring affair.
Coach Terry Russ retired from the boys head basketball coaching position after the last game. That resulted in Coach Benny Vault taking over and coming away with the district win.
The first quarter was slow, just like the game before it. It started with the Bears trailing 5-1 and ended with a Bears 6-5 lead.
The Bears had a 13-point run from the first quarter to the second and went into halftime with a 18-11 lead over LaSalle’s Tigers.
In the second half the Tigers were creeping their way back into the game. They cut Block’s lead to just 5 points. The Bears started pressing the Tigers heavily. All the Bears defenders got to the ball quickly, so they did not allow the easy buckets.
The fourth quarter, Bears still pressing, but they looked fatigued. The Tigers had begun to break through the press for a while and got some easy baskets.
It was a 2-3-point game at times. Block just needed a break to gain a little momentum.
Bears managed to steal the ball away from the Tigers a couple times and the Tigers had to foul. Block was good on their free throws to seal up the victory.
Block has had some close heartbreaking losses this season but found themselves on the winning side last Friday.
They beat the Montgomery TIgers 76-74.
