The Block Bears played their homecoming game this past Saturday night against Bolton. Despite Joseph Curry’s 3 passing touchdowns, Block would come up short. The final score was 55-28.
Block didn’t come out on top but gave their home crowd some excitement and confidence moving forward into district play which starts this Friday night. Coach Vault’s team showed improvements in every aspect of the game.
On the opening kickoff Block was able to strip the ball out of the Bolton return man and recover it. After Bolton was penalized 3 times for 25 yards Block QB Joseph Curry was able to complete a pass to Dre’ Curry for the first score of the game. Block was able to convert a 2-point attempt and the score was 8-0.
Bolton would respond with a long 50+ yard touchdown run about 2 and a half minutes later and would add 2 to the touchdown to tie the game at 8-8.
Block would not score again in the first half, meanwhile Bolton put their foot on the gas and scored an additional 31 points before halftime. So, at the half the score was 39-8 in favor of Bolton.
Midway through the 3rd quarter the Block defense forced Bolton to punt. The snap was good, the catch was good, but the punter kicked the ball off the side of his foot. The ball only went about 10 yards forward, but the spin on it took it behind the spot where the kicker initially punted it. The result was a punt for negative yardage.
Shortly after the bad punt, Joseph Curry would find Dre’ Curry for his second touchdown of the game. Block added 2 more points after, and the score was 39-16 with 6:44 left in the quarter.
Bolton would add 8 points to their score roughly 2 minutes later, and on the kickoff, it was Chad Green who returned the kick for the touchdown. In under 3 minutes there was 3 touchdowns scored. The score at the end of the third quarter was 45-22.
Block went on to add another touchdown on a pass to Kadarien O’ Steen who caught the ball over the Bolton defender. Block just didn’t have enough to make a comeback.
Block (1-4, 0-0) begins district play this Friday hosting Logansport (0-4, 0-0). That game will kickoff at 7pm.
