No response from engineers
What was meant to be improvements to Catahoula Church Road has proved to be detrimental to the road and private property. At the September 11 Catahoula Parish Police Jury meeting, John Tiser addressed jurors about the urgency to fill sides of roads back up.
According to Tiser when the new road was constructed two drainage cords were put in which allowed the creek to drain out of its banks onto the road and private property. The culverts are approximately two feet higher than elevation. The road is washing, and water lines are exposed.
Tiser stated “By allowing the creek to drain to it, you are effectively going to wind up flooding my house.” MEYER, MEYER, LACROIX and HIXSON, INC., the engineers for the project, has been contacted by Tiser and Police Jury member Deborah Mc-Cormack but no remedy had been done. McCormack has informed the engineers that the jury will not pay the remainder of the money owed for the project until the matter is resolved.
Tiser added, “I’ve talked to you and the engineer before, during and after the project was completed and I guess I failed to communicate the urgency of this.” He went on to add that if his house floods, he will have no choice but to file court documents naming several individuals and the engineering company. President Sones said he would contact the engineers for an update.
The jury went on to approve a resolution for a bond program to be offered in the parish by Capital Area Finance Authority (CAFA). CAFA aids help qualified potential home buyers to purchase a home. The Authority offers funds of three to four percent of the original loan amount to be used toward the borrower’s closing cost and down payment.
A quote of $12,750.00 from Mc-Clure Air Conditioner and Electrical was approved to install a new air conditioning unit for the dispatch and jailers’ office. The money will be paid by the E-911 admin office as approved by the finance committee. The jury approved moving CD# 2053831 for $5,525.26 into the E-911 checking account to help with the institutional expenses associated with the air conditioning unit for the dispatch area.
The Catahoula Parish Health Unit building in Jonesville was discussed in reference to needed repairs. Jury member Ricky Crumpton stated that in the lobby, water is coming straight down the front door and is going underneath the tile flooring. The roof is also leaking and in need of repair. Crumpton said that there is also other minor maintenance needed and suggested a professional repair person complete the work.
The health unit parking lot has a mental plate that is situated over two pipes leading into the parking lot. The metal plate is continuously rolling off the pipe and it too needs repair. A bid was approved in March for the inside of the building to be painted but the work has not been done to date. The jury voted to run ads for bids on each of the specific jobs discussed.
Three items were added to the agenda and approved two, ten-ton signs for a bridge in Aimwell, forty- four yards of pit run for McIntosch Road, and three hundred yards of pit run for the Vick Road wash out. The following agenda items were approved, twenty-two yards of pit run for Moreau Road, sixty yards of out run for Moody Road, and the cutting of limbs on Sanders Loop Road.
The next jury meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m. and is open to the public.
