Charles E. Wascom

Charles E. Wascom was born May 2, 1947 in Denham Springs, the only son of three children born to James and Georgia Wascom. When a young man the family’s life changed between the late 50’s and early 60’s, James lost his job in Denham Springs and was forced to move to Sandy Lake, Louisiana in 1961 with his little family to start over. Charles met his wife to be on a blind date when he was 18 years old on October 22, 1965, her name, Karen S. Morace, he later told everyone he had just met his future wife. His romance would be forced to be on hold due to the Draft for the Vietnam War, he had just turned 19 years old when he had to report to the Army on Aug. 8, 1966. He served one year overseas and one year home when he was honorably discharged on Aug. 08, 1968. Not long after being home he proposed to his bride to be and they were married on November 22, 1968, and stayed by each other’s side for 55 years until his death at home surrounded by his family on January 3, 2024.

Charles was preceded in death by his sister Shirely Cox; father, James Wascom; mother, Georgia Wascom; and sister, Carolyn Boudoin.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Karen Wascom, daughter, Sharon Mooney, husband Gerald Mooney; son, Dennis Wascom, wife Sharon Wascom; granddaughter, Kalene Ainsworth, husband Derek Ainsworth; grandson, Dalton Wascom, wife Alana Wascom, all of Sandy Lake. He was loved by all his nieces and nephews and was affectionately called (Unc) by many.

Pallbearers were Dalton Wascom, Chazz Nelson, Johnny Nelson, Caleb Bass, Will Bass, Drew McCartney and Calan McCartney. Honorary pallbearers were Lank Bass, Larry Boudoin, John Stamatelos, Windall Wilson, Derwin Ewing, Mike Ewing, Wayne (Pappy) Patten, Elton Lott, Raymond Lott, David Earl Morace and Jimmy Masters.

Services were held at graveside in Lone Pine Cemetery, 877 Pool Road, Monterey, La. 71354 at 1:00pm, Saturday, January 6, 2024 with Rev. Whit Bass officiating.
