Celebration of life for Dr. Mary Elizabeth Bradford Gibson, 90 of Lake St. John, LA was held at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday, LA on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 11AM. The family received friends from 10AM until service time. Interment followed at Pine Grove Cemetery in Whitehall, LA, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.
Mary was born on Monday, February 12, 1934, in French Fork, LA. In her younger days, she was an avid equestrian and belonged to the Ferriday Riding Club, winning countless awards. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the National Society of Colonial Dames. She received multiple degrees, including a Masters Degree in Education from LSU and a PhD in Early Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. A celebrated local author, Mary published books on folklore, history, and family. Mary passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 08, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at her home.
She is reunited with her husband, Dr. Herman Gibson, Jr., parents, James and Stella Paul Bradford and siblings, Claire Bradford, Arthur Bradford, Pete Bradford, Clyde Bradford, Lena Johnson, Lonnie Bradford, Leon Bradford, Ben Bradford, Clem Bradford, Louis Bradford, Minnie Bell Bingham, Marjorie Lee, Esther King, Georgia Robertson, Huey Bradford, OB Bradford, James William Bradford, Jr., Shirley Bradford, and Betty Jean Bradford.
Those left behind to cherish Mary's memories are her daughters, Angela McGlothin-Kirkland of Baton Rouge, LA (Steve Kirkland) and Lily Wilson and her husband Ronnie of Perryville, MD; grandchildren, Stepanie Wright and her husband Jeff, Heath Hailey and his wife Angel, Chasi Malone and her husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Alex, Payton, and Cameron; and spiritual friend, Lonnie Cage.
Those honoring Mary as pallbearers were her family, Ronnie Wilson, Lonnie Cage, Jeff Wright, Heath Hailey, and Chris Malone.
Honorary pallbearers were Cameron Malone, and Alex Wright.
