Services for Shellby Trisler were held at 10AM, Friday, March 28, 2025 at Mayna Church of God, Mayna, LA with Bro. Dennis Baker, Bro. Jason Wiley and Sheriff Toney Edwards officiating. Visitation was from 6PM, Thursday, March 27th until time of service at 10AM, Friday, March 28th at the church. Interment followed at Palo Alto Cemetery, Mayna, LA under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria, LA.
Shelby Trisler, 89, of Jonesville, Louisiana, passed away on March 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 26, 1935, and lived a life dedicated to faith, family, and service. On April 12, 1959, Shelby married the love of his life, Dovie Bass Trisler, in Deville, Louisiana. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and devotion for 65 years. Shelby proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii. After his military service, he dedicated his life to hard work and serving his community in many capacities. Over the years, he worked for Babin Motors, Jonesville Tractor, W&Y Tractor, Snaggy Lake Grocery, and Carpenter Tractor. He also drove a school bus for many years and took great pride in his role as the driver of Bus 7, transporting students, the Special Olympics, and the Block High Band. His dedication to his community extended beyond his professional life. Shelby served as a Notary Public, Justice of the Peace, and a Deputy for the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was particularly proud of his work overseeing an inmate crew, digging 408 graves, and escorting 1,397 funerals in the parish, ensuring every service was handled with dignity and respect.
Above all, Shelby was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dovie Bass Trisler; his daughters, Liz Trisler, and Susan Clay (Jason); and his sons, Wayne Trisler, and Michael Trisler (Kassie), 14 grandchildren: Josh Book (Brooke), Clay Book (Stephanie), Lara Farhand (Drew), Heather Leaphart (Brandon), Daisy DeWitt (Justin), Holli House (Ethan), Lily Clay, Jordan Stafford (Marshall), Levi Trisler, Erin Pruitt (Haiden), Lucas Thompson, Maggie Thompson, Abel Trisler, and Shepard Trisler; 17 great-grandchildren, River, Maddox, and August Book; Tripp Blasingame, Sophie and Henry Book; Ashor, Allie and Andie Farhand; Mason Leaphart; Finn DeWitt; Ella and Katie House; Jacey, Ryleigh and Addi Stafford; and Hazel Pruitt; sisters, Melvia Trisler Bass, and Verdya Trisler Pecanty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Nay Trisler, Jr. and Lucy Elizabeth White Trisler; in-laws, Alfred “Doc” and Daisy Bass; brothers, Lloyd Trisler, Wannie Trisler; brothers-in-law, Dale Bass and Carlton Pecanty; sisters-in-law – Peggy Trisler, Doris Trisler, Hazel Bass Dayton and Thelma Teekel; and sons-in-law, Jerry Glen Book, Jr. and Tim Evans.
Those honoring Shelby as pallbearers were Wayne Trisler, Michael Trisler, Josh Book, Clay Book, Levi Trisler, Sheriff Toney Edwards, Darron “Tootie” Cooper, and Kyle Wilson.
Shelby’s life was one of integrity, dedication, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
