Mamie Floyd, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on November 20, 1938 in Catahoula Parish and entered into eternal rest on June 4, 2025 in Jena, LA.
She is preceded in death by husband of 62 years Billy Floyd; parents Ayce and Ethel Orr, and sister Mary Deville.
She is survived by son, Billy G. Floyd and wife Sandy of Harrisonburg; daughter, Kathy Spann and husband Howard of Harrisonburg; son, Scottie Floyd and wife Sandi Gayle of Manifest; sister, Sarah Deville of Libuse; uncle, Jimmy Orr of Wisner; grandchildren, Jody Floyd, Kasi Cader, Toby Floyd, and Jacob Parker; and host of great and great-great grandchildren.
Mamie was a woman whose faith defined her, whose prayers uplifted many, and whose love of family and traditions brought joy to all who knew her. A devoted follower of Christ and member of Meyers Bend Pentecostal Church, Mamie both loved and feared the Lord with a reverence that shone through every aspect of her life. She was a true prayer warrior, faithfully calling out your name in prayer each night—whether you needed it or not—and believing wholeheartedly in the power of God’s grace and mercy.
Her kitchen was a place of warmth and comfort, where the sweet scent of pies baking — especially coconut and chocolate— filled the air. Her baking was legendary, a testament to the love she poured into every crust and filling.
Christmas held a special place in Mamie’s heart. She loved to fill her home with music, lights, and candy, embracing every tradition of the season. Her family especially looked forward to Christmas Eve at her house—a cherished tradition where generations gathered to celebrate Christmas together. It was a time filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of her homemade treats—a night that brought everyone together and created memories to last a lifetime.
If it wasn’t Christmas music playing, you could find her tapping her feet to the sounds of bluegrass, her other great musical love. One of her greatest joys was traveling to the bluegrass festival in Kentucky with her beloved husband, Billy. Together, they shared a love of music, laughter, and the simple, sweet moments that make a life well-lived.
Whether she was teaching them to make Christmas candy or watching Cars for the 100th time, Maw Mamie was always ready and eager to spend time with her grandkids, and she was deeply loved by them in return.
Mamie leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and unwavering love—a legacy that will continue to bless her family, friends, and all those who were lucky enough to know her.
Proud to serve her as pallbearers were her grandsons, Jody Floyd, Toby Floyd, Jacob Parker, Austin Cader, Ashton Cader, and Brent Cader.
