Contraband Interdiction at Catahoula Correctional Center

On June 17, our officers at the Catahoula Correctional Center acted swiftly on credible information regarding narcotics hidden inside one of the inmate dorms. A targeted shakedown was conducted on specific inmates and their property, leading to the discovery of 44 ‘tabs’ of suspected synthetic narcotics, aka "Mojo".

“These tabs are often made by soaking paper in synthetic drugs, including fentanyl,” said Sheriff Toney Edwards. “Once dried, the paper is cut into small portions, which inmates can smoke to get high. Unfortunately, even a small amount can be dangerous—and in some cases, deadly.”

This type of contraband is easily hidden and passed between inmates, making it especially hard to detect. However, thanks to the diligence and teamwork of our staff, this threat was identified and removed before it could cause harm.

The inmate in whose property the contraband was found now faces disciplinary action under Louisiana Department of Corrections rules; and, a warrant for criminal charges through the 7th Judicial District Court for introduction of contraband and intent to distribute will be filed.

We are proud of our officers for their commitment to safety, vigilance, and proactive action. Their efforts are vital to protecting the well-being of both staff and inmates.
