Berry Scott, 88, of Jonesville, Louisiana, passed away January 19, 2026 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital at 2:30PM. He was born in Baldwyn, MS on September 29, 1937, to the parents of Robert Kern and Lilly Virginia Michaels Scott. Mr. Berry was known by many nicknames, Cleborne, Cotton, Whitey, and Poppa or Pops. He was a born again Christian and a member of Crossway Family Worship Center. Berry was a carpenter by trade, and a farmer. He built hundreds of homes over his lifetime, and did many repairs to homes. He was also an auxiliary deputy for Catahoula Parish for many years. We call him one of the founders who helped develop La Delta Plantation when it was still trees and no farmland. He built the homes on La Delta Plantation for managers, supervisors, and workers to live in on the South and North Farm.

Berry began farming some of the land on LA Delta in 1974-82. Mr. Berry (Whitey) loved when LA Delta would host a cooking. He loved to fry fish, make chili, and cook whenever LA Delta Plantation called for him to cook for several hundred people. If you knew “Whitey”, you knew his family was the most important thing to him. He taught his boys, and others, good work ethics, and what it meant to have good morals and value your name. He would say, “You may not have much, but keep your name clean and work hard, and you’ll end up happy in life.” He was very well known in the community for his jokes. He shared many jokes and never told the same one twice. He was also well known and loved in the Glade Community and throughout the parish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Kern Scott and Lilly Virginia Michaels Scott; son, Jeffery Kern Scott; grandson, Joshua De-Wayne Scott; brother Robert Scott; sister Jeanette Crews.
