Funeral services for John Woodrow Davis, 84, of Jonesville, LA were held at Crossway Family Worship in Jonesville on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 2:00pm with Sister Kim Cook officiating. Interment followed at Jena Cemetery in Jena, LA, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
John was born on Friday, February 24, 1939, in Malvern, AR and passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Jonesville, LA. He was a member of Evangeline Baptist Church in Wildsville, LA. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. John worked for Penrod Drilling for over 20 years as a diesel mechanic. He was a farmer and was known to lend a hand to anyone in need. During his free time, he loved going to dirt races, building motors, and just tinkering in his garage. John was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting in all seasons, but especially for deer and frog. Above all else, John loved spending time with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert “Pete” Rodney Davis, Sr., and Zelma Childress Davis; son, Little Rod Davis; his twin brother, Joe E. Davis; and older brother, Elbert Rodney Davis, Jr. Those left behind to cherish John’s memories are his daughter, Edna Davis Reichman and her husband Jim of Colfax, LA; son, Bruce Davis and his wife Mary Ann of Natchez, MS; daughters, Amanda Davis Thrasher and her husband Petie of Jonesville, LA and RaeAnn Davis of Ferriday, LA; sister, Pat Davis Clepper of Jonesville, LA; brother, Sidney Davis and his wife Cynthia of Wildsville, LA; grandchildren, Kassi Kennon Carey and her husband Kevin, Kelli Kennon Loomis and her husband John Dale, Brad Kennon and his wife Lacey, Gracie Reichman, Robin Todd, Holly Tillery, Sarah Davis, Jessie Davis, Steven Davis, Kelsei Price and-Taylor, Hunter Luttrull, Haylei Luttrull, Phoenix Wheeler, Phoebee Wheeler, Holley Cockerham, Taylor McElwee, and Heidi Cockerham; special family that cared for him, sister, Pat, Tonya and Leo Phipps and Tish Giamanco; twetny-three great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Those honoring John as pallbearers were Donavon Ryan, Brad Kennon, Kevin Carey, Casey Phipps, Courtney Cockerham, J.D. Martin, Jeff Ames, and Leo Phipps.
Honorary Pallbearers were Kenny Davis, Conley Manning, Bobby Loftin, Grover Wayne Elliott and Brent Brazell.
The family would like to thank The Columns Nursing Home and Enhabit Hospice for the care they took of John.
The family received friends at Crossroads Family Worship from 12:00 until service time at 2:00.
