Funeral services for Martha Lucyle Taliaferro, 83 of Jonesville, LA were held at Harrisonburg First Baptist Church on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Bro. Joe Weaver, Bro. Thomy Green, and Bro. Cory Bruce officiating. Interment followed at Harrisonburg Cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Martha Lucyle Taliaferro was born on Thursday, May 22, 1941, and passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at Rapides General Medical Center. She was a resident of Jonesville, a member of Harrisonburg First Baptist Church and retired from teaching with 13 years of service and 7 years as a Social Worker. Martha was also a published author of many books.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton I. Carter and Emily Wright Carter; husband, Henry “Hat” Taliaferro, Jr.; sister, Altonette Carter Wilson; and daughter-in-law, Tina Taliaferro.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Robyn Taliaferro of Jena, LA; son, Trey Taliaferro of Jonesville, LA; grandson, Tal Taliaferro and his wife Leigha of Monterey, LA; granddaughter, Madison Taliaferro Hall and her husband Matthew of Bastrop, LA; two great-grandsons, Harvey Hall and Slade Taliaferro; and great-granddaughter, Jolie Taliaferro. Martha is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers were Will Lipsey, James White, Marcus Evans, Gerald Huffman, Tal Taliaferro, Dave Allen Hudspeth, Michael Tubre and Jay Wilson.
Honorary Pallbearers were The Catahoula Bank Board of Directors, Sheriff Toney Edwards and the Catahoula Sheriff’s Office Staff, James McGee, Chad Champlin, Mike Wilson, Rick Mathis, Howard Davison, Jimmy Hunt, Paul Riggs, Bob Swanson, Earl Wright, Bill Wright, Russell Purvis, David Broussard Sparky McDuffie, Kevin Routon and Buzz Scott.
