On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Catahoula Parish experienced its first snowfall for winter. Most businesses and state government ran offices shut down due to the ice and vast amounts of snow in south Louisiana.

A blast of winter weather hit Catahoula Parish last week. Predictions of an extended period of below freezing, dangerous temperatures closed businesses and schools.Although the heavy snow was south of the parish, light snow covered the ground.

The Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) conducted its annual audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Approved Louisiana Legislator Auditor’s, The Vercher Group, performed the audit, reporting CPSO had an operating deficit of $1,996,907.30.

Bird Flu has proved to be fatal in cats. Twenty big cats have died after ingesting food (raw turkey) contaminated with the Bird Flu Virus. This occurred in Shelton, Washington at the Wild Felid Advocacy Center. Eight thousand pounds of food was removed from this facility.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Jonesville man for allegedly violating chronic wasting disease (CWD) regulations on Jan. 9 in Catahoula Parish.Agents cited Scotty Smart, 58, for two counts of illegally importing a cervid carcass into Louisiana.
